I n his first novel, Vazhiyum Nizhalum (The Road and the shadow), Varkey employed the stream-of-consciousness technique in telling the love story of a young widow. A senior post graduate student rescue her two lovely children from an accident. From there onwards they foster a love affair and the scandalmongers force them to get married finally. The story unfold trough the heroine stream of thoughts, fantasy and dreams. She finally choses the new path for her sake and her two children for a brighter future.
